I must say this was the most difficult page I've ever created. My prayers and warmest wishes to Jerry's friends and family.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this most difficult time. Jerry Jr. was one of the nicest, most respectful young men that I have ever met. His parents should be very proud of the son that they so successfully raised.

Jerry I loved you like a son and your father like a brother. My love to all the family who was there for him. Dad it was you who he tried to follow and live up to that made him the person we grew to love. He will forever be in my life.

There are no words to express my sorrow at Jerry's passing-people like Jerry are an example to us all, showing unconditional love and friendship to everyone, always a quiet smile and a knowing look.....I will remember our August golf day at Del Monte forever. Jerry, I was lucky to have known you, and my heart goes out to your family. With so much love....bw

Jerry was truly a special man. A kind and gentle soul, an inspiration to everyone around him, and a role model for my son Max. He will be missed.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

Life will go on without Jerry, but it won't be the same. He leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. Although he was many years younger than I, I considered him to be one of my best friends. He was a joy to be around with his quiet dry sense of humor. He was a fierce competitor on the golf course. The man could hit a flop shot as well as anybody. I miss him.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

Although Jerry is gone he is not gone in the hearts of the people that loved/knew him at Spring Hills. Being a friend,co-worker and teammate his passing is indeed difficult but I know every time I go to play Spring Hills Jerry will be there sharing with us our laughs our drives our putts and even our club tossing/breaking. He will always be missed but never forgotten.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

Gerardito was known to not say a whole lot. But I recall that when his grandmother passed he asked why God takes people so young. Ironically God took him at less than half her age.
We are all left wondering, yet we have beautiful memories of him. And we are fortunate to have this opportunity to share and gather so many positive thoughts. Mil gracias, Ryan

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

A mother and father's hearts are broken, being a mom myself, I cannot even begin to imagine your pain. Gerardito's laughter was a contagious one. Seeing him running up and down the halls at school as a child, always brought a smile to my face. I will carry in my heart the happy conversation we shared in those last days Gerardito was with us. He was enjoying his new Beatles band game. The person he grew up to become was the example of a pure, loving, caring human being, with a heart big enough for every person he met. Our family is praying for yours. Much love always, The Arias Family

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

I want to thank Ryan for this page. It was very thoughtful and it is helping my family heal. I want to thank all the people at Spring Hills. You will forever hold a special place in my family's heart. I look at this webpage everyday and I read statements of love for my son. The heartfelt messages will keep my son's spirit alive. I am trying to play Spring Hills as much as I can. I hold this course sacred. It is the only place other then home where my son would spend his time. The clubhouse, range, putting green and every hole remind me of him. Please feel free to share a moment or a story of "Jerry Jr" either here on this website or with me at the course. I will be there playing or practicing with my son.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

Jerry Jr. continues to be a very special part of Spring Hills. His beautiful uplifting songs have been playing in the pergola and touching all who hear them. A golfer just the other day commented on how nice the music is. I shared Jerry's courageous journey with him. This individual realized how very precious life is and you need to live it to its fullest, just as Jerry did. Jerry is with us and bestows goodness on us all.

I am blown away by the news of Jerry's passing. I can only echo the consistent words describing Jerry as an individual and golfer. He was a delight to be around and will forever be remembered as a Spring Hills staple. My love and prayers go out to his family and hope that they can continue to gain strength through the love at Spring Hills.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

I am saddened to hear of Jerry Jr.'s passing. I played golf once with him and his Dad at Spring Hills and was struck by his courtesy and politeness, not just proper golf etiquette. He was a very respectful young man, mature in dealing with golf opponents/competitors. When I was walking back to my car after the round, he made it a point to come over to my car and say- See you again soon, Mr. Mahoric! What an impressive young gentleman he was. Jerry Sr. and his whole family should be very proud of him. My best wishes and prayers for him and his family.

I just read these entries again, for the XXX time. I still miss Jerry every day. All my memories of him make me a better man. I will forever try to live up to the standard that he set by his own example. I talk to Jerry everyday and love him as a son and a best friend.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

It has taken awhile to actually process the loss of Jr.--as there have been times (even now)when I walk into the clubhouse expecting him to be behind the counter with a,"What's up, Chuck?" He actually trained me to work and close up at nights at Spring Hills and I couldn't have had a better role model in regards to doing a thorough job and having exceptional customer service skills.

One time last year when he was working the carts and I was working behind the bar, I had a fairly intense "run in" with a belligerent customer [seriously, it was all the customer's fault!:)] and I got to the point where I was ready to physically remove him from Watsonville! Jerry just stood there without saying a word and then calmly and slowly worked his way towards the guy so as to be between me and the guy--in an effort to ease the situation...which he did...without saying a word. Subsequently, the guy backed off and even changed his tone--realizing that he had just "pushed my angry button". Situation resolved.

Later on, when I asked Jerry about the incident he merely said, "I needed to do something because I noticed that you looked like you were ready to hop over the counter and kick his ass!"

That kind of defines Jr. for me. He always had your back, but kept his wits about him so that he wouldn't let things get out of hand. He wanted everybody to just be happy and enjoy life.

He is sorely missed by all of us at SH...and yet I think that even now when someone walks through the doors to the clubhouse, Jerry Jr IS INDEED there with a smile and a "What's up?" He'll always be there with us...smiling at us, shaking his head at us, and laughing at our lame excuses for having just had a bad golf game.

I'm thankful for the time that I got to spend with Jr. and truly appreciate Gerado Sr. and his wife for raising such an awesome kid and sharing him with us...even if it wasn't as long as we all prayed for and wanted! I'm guessing St. Peter must have needed some lessons on his swing!

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

I unfortunately never had the pleasure to play a round with Jerry, but my few brief encounters with him around and in the clubhouse were quite impressionable. He had a definite calmness about him that is quite rare in today’s youth. There was a definite peace with Jerry and his smile was contagious. It's no wonder so much love is still being brought to Spring Hills through him despite his absence.

Re: Gerardo “Jerry” Loyola, Jr. 1985 - 2009

I want to thank everyone for either playing in, or donating to my "Mijo's" tournament. This truly was a fantastic memorial to Jerry. Tomorrow will be his 25th birthday. Our family will celebrate it at 5:30 at the cemetery. I want you all to know that Jerry was there with us at the tournament. I know he was swinging the club for me where I birdied 2, 5,11, 12, 13 and 18. It was like his hands were on my clubs and undoubtedly the putter. I also know he was there as the Redtail Hawks were flying, playing, and hovering above our group on Number 7. I had just made an "Jerryesque" flop shot that hit the stick and lipped out just missing the eagle. I know he was there when my weak drive into number 18 hit the rail on the bridge and bouced onto the green. I know he was there in the laughter, playing, and love that was given to me and my family. Thanks all of you for your tribute to my son.
Ps. I know he helped other please share the moments he helped you, while you were playing in the tournament.
